We are Ireland

Our Project : "We Are Ireland"
Welcome to the latest update from our high school ! Throughout November, we celebrated the rich and vibrant culture of Ireland through our project "We Are Ireland." This initiative was an amazing opportunity for our students to explore the history, art, literature, and traditions of this fascinating country.

In collaboration with the Centre Culturel Irlandais (CCI) in Paris, we received a specially designed teacher’s pack full of ideas and resources. This pack inspired a variety of lessons and activities, which engaged students across all grade levels.

A Month of Learning and Creativity
Each class brought their unique perspective to the project :
• First-Year Students : The first-year students explored Irish history and literature through creativity. They wrote heartfelt poems inspired by key historical events such as Bloody Sunday, the Great Famine, and Ireland’s struggle for independence. They also created comic strips based on Oscar Wilde’s Short Stories, including The Selfish Giant, The Happy Prince, and The Canterville Ghost.

• Second-Year Students : The second-year students prepared book reviews of Jane Mitchell’s short stories and made informative posters on Irish culture, focusing on topics such as myths, sports, music, and dance. A highlight for these students was their visit to the Centre Culturel Irlandais (CCI), where they toured St. Patrick’s Church, conducted research in the library, and learned about Irish history and art. Additionally, we invited the Association Irlandaise de Paris to our school. They presented various Irish instruments and shared fascinating insights into Irish music and history, allowing students to experience the beauty of traditional Irish music firsthand.

• STGM Students : The STGM students focused on the relationship between art and the economy in Ireland. They researched how these two fields influence each other and delivered oral presentations to showcase their findings.
School-Wide Workshops and Activities

To ensure that everyone could join the celebration, we organized several workshops and events :
• A film projection of Bloody Sunday for first-year students, which deepened their understanding of this pivotal moment in Irish history.
• A reading workshop at the CDI (school library), open to all students, featuring Irish authors and stories.

A Memorable Collaboration
This project was made possible thanks to the invaluable support of the Centre Culturel Irlandais (CCI) in Paris. Their resources and expertise enriched every lesson and activity, making the project engaging and meaningful for our students. Through "We Are Ireland," our students not only gained knowledge about Ireland’s rich heritage but also developed skills in creativity, research, and presentation.
We are incredibly proud of our students’ enthusiasm and dedication. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to explore and celebrate cultures from around the world !
